From Boredom stems Desire, allowing Creativity. It is the Need that creates want.

“Everything you can imagine is real.” — Pablo Picasso

“You can’t use up creativity, the more you use the more you have.” — Maya Angelou

Creativity is what separates us from each other, and us from the Cosmos. But it also binds us. It is a paradox; a duality, a blend of half truths of the same coin, a yin and yang. It is a collective continuum of bond and atomization which we must intimately allow ourselves to experience, nourish and cultivate the sacred- sacrificial time and space for it to spring and prosper naturally into action.

It’s the missing puzzle piece in the animal kingdom, that Humans have found and harnessed, that places us at the zenith of the food chain. Its through the creative process in which we are able to speak to our deepest, most intimate selves and dive into an everflowing chalice of divinity. Through creation we are able to project, forecast, and plan for future unimaginable accomplishments using our Minds and evolve…a vorfreude. It’s true self awareness. We gain insight through the habitual progressive overload called Life.

Earliest traces of this can be found when Humans discovered and harnessed fire. Fire allowed us to grow in unimaginable ways by using its energy for food, shelter, and weaponry that evolved us as a species indefinitely. From this creative spark, we evolved exponentially in our collective consciousness in finding creative ways to harness fire for technology. In its essence, discovering fire was our creative spark and catalyst into creativity. Where boredom and desire for a need sprung creativity into action.

Society today seeks the fruition of creation without meditating through the action of the creative process. We want the looks, money, status, and power without the very thing needed to provide that, which is creativity. This moves unnaturally, and like a perversion, it causes a devolution and a separation in consciousness; like a slave and shackel we are binded to our base instincts and desires. This is where society is heading with its validative, catchy, and bait and share, like posts. It’s an echo of mundanity, a hive like behavior that doesn’t satisfy a deep hunger for creativity. Rather, it enslaves and shackles and creates a crave for more. This is where society has failed us as a species. Society must act upon instead of reacting upon.

This begs the question, how do we tap into our creative selves?

Boredom. The concept of boredom in society today has always had worst connotation. Being bored is seen as depressing, a mental health issue, or worse, an underlying cause for something to be diagnosed, or “fixed.” I argue the opposite. Boredom is the catalyst to creativity. Boredom is the road less travelled, it is the ladder towards creation. Given these times of reflection with quarantine Covid-19 pandemic, we are forced into boredom, we are forced into finding new ways to fill our time. For the first time in a century of a pandemic, the individual must confront their creative selves, and manifest their desire to fill that need and want with a creative venture. One has to channel this energy into action — manifest it into existence — instead of letting it dissipate into the void. Next time you have a brilliant idea or shower thought, please write it down? Your spirit might have just saved human kind.
